Martin Luther King Jr. Observance

Our Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance this year will focus on the theme of "What Would Martin Say?" in the face of the many issues that confront us today as a society in flux. Join Special Guest Speakers:

Mr. Bill Thompson, former Comptroller of the City of New York, Kenneth David Cohen, NAACP - President of the Flushing Branch.

Music will be provided by:

DEC. 23, 8:00 PM IT IS OUR TRADITION AND AS A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY WE WANT YOU TO MAKE IT YOURS. EACH YEAR FAMILIES BRING THEIR MENORAH TO SYNAGOGUE AND EVERYONE LIGHTS TOGETHER. THIS YEAR IT WILL BE THE 4TH CANDLE, FRIDAY, DEC. 23 AT 8 PM. BRING YOUR FAMILY, YOUR MENORAH AND YOUR APPETITE. AFTER SERVICES WE WILL CELEBRATE WITH LATKES AND DOUGHNUTS. ONE CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH OIL DURING CHANUKAH.

Open HouseFree Synagogue of Flushing hosted an Open House as part of the state-wide Sacred Sites Open  House program organized by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. This will highlight the Sacred Sites that have been aided by grants and assistance from the Conservancy, one of which is the Free Synagogue.
Guided tours of the Sanctuary were available featuring explanations of the artifacts, history and planned restorationAs the only synagogue in Queens featuring a pipe organ, a brief organ recital was scheduled, played by the Synagogue's organist, Robert Barrows.  Both Rabbi Michael Weisser and Cantor Steven Pearlston  will also be present to answer questions.
